Menlo College has its first coed cheerleading team and Kenzia Molinsky, the head coach, will lead the squad into their first season.
Molinsky started work at Menlo in June, and since then has been building a coed cheer team from the ground up.
She accepted the job Menlo after serving as the head coach at North Marion High School, in Aurora Ore. Molinsky grew up in a small town just outside of Portland Ore., where she started her cheerleading profession. She had been teaching competitive cheer for 15 years, however she has been a part of cheerleading for the past 26 years. Molinksy says she is very excited to be a part of Menlo, and is ready to start.
We want to "raise school spirit, and get people more involved in athletic events" said Molinksy,
"She brings many years of experience and tons of energy and excitement to our staff. I look forward to seeing her build this program from the ground up," Keith Spataro, head of Menlo's athletic department, said in an earlier interview.
The squad will debut at the Oaks Oct. 1 Homecoming football game.
In addition to supporting the Menlo sports teams, the cheer squad is scheduled to participate in national and regional competitions.
"Our competitions are March 10 at the San Jose Convention Center, and USA College Nationals are March 18-19 at the Anaheim Convention Center. " said Molinsky.
