California's budget crisis has forced community colleges to slash courses in every session or cancel summer session like at San Francisco City College.

Summer school at Menlo, as oppose to taking classes somewhere else, is a perfect opportunity to make up credits and it is a good opportunity to get into classes that fill up fast.

"I love it. It's really laid back especially if your around some cool people who stay back. I've made some good friends here in the summer," said Senior Cody Gibson.

The prices may be high but so are the benefits. The summer classes at Menlo are split into four sessions; A, B, C, D.

Session A starts the 12 of May, and ends June 15th. This session is only 5 weeks long making it a lot easier on students to get the best of both worlds; the units they need and still having time to have a great summer.

Session B is from July 21st to August 17th being the shortest term of only 4 weeks.

Session C is May 3rd to June 24th, which are all evening classes once a week for 8 weeks.

The last session D is also 8 weeks from June 28th until August 19th. This session only has two classes to choose from, ACC 002 and ECO 056.

The class schedule is available in the admissions office as well as academic affairs.

Summer school is $400 a unit, up from $300 a unit in 2009, and $275.00 a week for housing only (without taking any summer classes). There are bundled rates dependent on the section and amount of units being taken over the summer.

"It's ridiculous. I can take summer classes at a community college for $30 a unit" said first semester Senior Brown Bellisimo.

"Don't try and add [classes] the day [they] start because some classes are dropped if not enough people sign up for it" said academic Adviser, Rachael Tipton.

Racheal Tipton's door is open for any questions regarding summer school. For questions regarding housing contact JD in the Students' Affairs Office.
